Frequently asked questions
What reading speed is assumed?
200 words per minute — the average adult silent-reading speed for non-fiction. Skimming runs faster (300+ wpm) and technical material slower (100–150 wpm), so adjust the slider to match your situation.
How long will my speech be?
Speakers average 120–150 words per minute — the calculator uses 130 wpm. A 780-word talk is roughly 6 minutes. Practice runs beat any estimate, so time yourself once and adjust.
How many pages is my text?
The tool estimates pages at 500 words per single-spaced page or 250 words per double-spaced page (12 pt Times New Roman, 1-inch margins — the standard manuscript convention).
